A Simple Fizzing Trick for a Fresher, Cleaner Toilet

Cleaning the toilet doesn’t have to involve harsh chemicals or hours of scrubbing. With two common household ingredients—baking soda and white vinegar—you can create a simple fizzing reaction that helps freshen the bowl and loosen everyday grime.

What You’ll Need

  • ½ cup of baking soda
  • ½ cup of white vinegar
  • A toilet brush
  • Optional: a few drops of lemon or tea-tree essential oil

How to Do It

Start by sprinkling the baking soda directly into the toilet bowl. Make sure some of it reaches the sides and settles near the waterline.

Next, pour in the white vinegar. The mixture will fizz and bubble—that’s the reaction helping to loosen residue and odors. Let it sit for 10–15 minutes so it has time to work.

After soaking, scrub the bowl thoroughly with a toilet brush, paying special attention to the underside of the rim. Finish by flushing the toilet.

For an extra-fresh scent, add a few drops of lemon or tea-tree essential oil to the baking soda before pouring it into the bowl.

An Important Safety Reminder

Never mix vinegar with bleach or other chemical toilet cleaners. Combining cleaning products can create dangerous fumes. Use this method on its own, and always keep the bathroom well ventilated.

This quick, budget-friendly trick is a great addition to your regular bathroom-cleaning routine.
